Bodo Agreement Signed

Under the agreement, NDFB groups will leave the path of violence, surrender their weapons and dissolve their armed organizations within one month of signing the agreement. The Union Government and the Government of Assam will take the necessary steps to rehabilitate more than 1500 cadres of the NDFB (P), NDFB (RD) and NDFB (S) in accordance with the policy defined by the Government. According to the agreement, the area called BTAD will be renamed Bodoland Territorial Region and the centre would accelerate the status of „mountain tribe“ for Bodo residents who live in the hills of Assam. The Bodo language with the devnagri script becomes the associated official language for the whole of Assam. A tripartite agreement between the Centre, the State and various political groups related to the Bodo issue, including all groups of the Bodoland National Democratic Front (NDFB), was signed in the presence of the Union`s Home Minister, Amit Shah, and the Assam Prime Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal, in New Delhi, to resolve the Bodo issue in a lasting manner. Delhi: The Indian government signs a tripartite agreement with representatives of all factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA); Interior Ministers Amit Shah and Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal present With this agreement, more than 1,500 armed cadres will engage in violence and join the mainstream. A special development package Rs. 1500 crores over three years is made available by the Union government to carry out specific projects for the development of the areas of Bodo. „Today the centre, the government of Assam and the representative of Bodo signed an important agreement. This agreement will ensure a golden future for Assam and for the people of Bodo,“ said Amit Shah, adding that the agreement will not only meet the protection of Bodo`s language and culture, but also political and economic demands. Interior Minister Amit Shah, in agreement with the factions of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland: 1550 cadres and 130 weapons will capitulate on January 30.
